We are a video production company based in Durham, North Carolina creating short documentaries, promo videos and branded content. Our specialty is crafting honest, emotional stories that create authentic connections with viewers. Founded by photojournalists, we apply the techniques and ethos of documentary work to all of everything we do. Who we are
Steve Remich
Co-founder/Director of Photography
Sailor, surfer, cook and camera obsessive. Steve's career as a visual storyteller has taken him from rain forests to mountaintops. His experience behind the camera and exacting attention to detail ensures every story is beautifully told. Trained as a photojournalist, Steve began his career as a newspaper staff photographer and freelance cinematographer. His images have been published in The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Newsday and others. A graduate of the University of Missouri’s prestigious graduate school of Journalism, Steve co-founded Root Media with Reiley Wooten in 2018.
Co-founder/Head of Post-Production
Native North Carolinian, woodworker and a pretty good tractor driver. Reiley's keen eye for narrative and deep knowledge of editing honed over many years brings every story to life. After beginning her career as a staff newspaper photographer, Reiley joined the team at the award-winning, documentary production studio Talking Eyes Media. She worked as an editor, producer and cinematographer for clients such as The James Irvine Foundation, Encore.org, the International Women’s Health Coalition and others. A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Media and Journalism, Reiley co-founded Root Media with Steve Remich in 2018.

As a full-service video production company, we can take projects from initial concept to final export or jump in at any point in between. We specialize in producing short-form, original documentaries and promo videos, but also have extensive experience filming single and multi-camera events. We’re also still photographers and have created images for major businesses and editorial publications. Our large network of collaborators allows us to bring on the right people for any creative project.
