About this Project

As people age, they’re often faced by the dual problem of needing more—both expensive and complex—health care while also having a more fixed income. In addition, seniors may see many different providers who each prescribe medications which can sometimes be unnecessary or have detrimental interactions. To try and address this issue in Durham, N.C., Gina Upchurch founded Senior PharmAssist in 1994. Senior PharmAssist promotes healthier living for Durham seniors by helping them obtain and better manage needed medications, and by providing health education, Medicare insurance counseling, community referral and advocacy. In a nutshell, Senior PharmAssist helps people obtain and understand their medications so they can live longer and healthier lives.

Senior PharmAssist reached out to us because even though their program is well established they wanted to spread the word about their programming and try to help more people. After in initial creative discussions, we proposed creating two videos that would be related, but also individually target their two primary audiences — seniors that use their services and medical providers. We were able to plan production to film the interviews and b-roll for both during the same sessions which saved on cost. Each video stayed true to Senior PharmAssist’s scope and mission, but highlighted the unique benefits to seniors and medial providers.
