Brief But Spectacular: Will Jackson
Client: Second Peninsula
About this Project
The Brief But Spectacular series run nationally on PBS Newshour and is produced by the L.A.-based production company Second Peninsula. The Emmy-nominated series features guests such as: Steve Martin and Martin Short, Bryan Stevenson, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Michael Lewis, Robert Reich and others.
Second Peninsula contacted us when they wanted to film an interview for the series in Durham, N.C. with Will Jackson, leader of Village of Wisdom, about his initiative to protect Black Genius. Village of Wisdom organizes a collective of Black parents and their supporters that are dedicated to creating more culturally affirming learning environments for Black people by learning, refining, and using the Black Genius Elements.
To pull off the shoot during the height of COVID, we worked with Second Peninsula producers to source local crew and act as a DP for a socially-distanced remote interview. The director, producer and other key staff were able to see and conduct the interview in real-time from their offices around the county without the need to travel. The footage was then delivered to Second Peninsula for editing and aired on PBS Newshour on October 28, 2021.
