Sometimes, when you’re really lucky, the stars align and things just work out. We at Root Media were fans and readers of Atlas Obscura long before we got a chance to work together. Their love of exploring the world through the quirky and offbeat always resonated with us. We’re also always interested in exploring culture throught the lens of food. So when they approached us to help produce and shoot the initial episodes of a new series focusing on people doing interesting things in the food space, we jumped at the opportunity.

The Gastro Obscura: Sparked series explores how one special bite can change an entire life. In every episode, the diverse roster of rotating guests—featuring chefs, food historians, scientists, artists, and other industry professionals—take viewers on a journey in their kitchens. They’ll each answer the same question: What “Spark Food” rewired your brain, showed you that food was more than fuel, and kick-started the journey to become who you are today?
